High School
The Ishpeming High School girls basketball team claimed a state championship with a 48-28 blowout win over Portland Saint Patrick Saturday. The Hematites led by just one at the end of the first quarter, but held the Shamrocks scoreless in the second quarter. By the time St. Patrick found the basket again nearly two minutes into the third quarter, Ishpeming was up by 21. It’s the second state title in three years for the Hematites. Jenessa Eagle led Ishpeming with 19 points and 11 rebounds – she’ll join the Michigan Tech basketball team next fall. Mya Hemmer added 18 points and 17 rebounds – she’s headed to Baylor on a volleyball scholarship.
Ishpening finished the season with a record of 25-3, and their second state title in the past three years.

- In Division One, Muskegon got past Detroit Renaissance 34-29.
- In Division Three, Jackson Lumen Christi stopped Pewamo-Westphalia 52-36.
- The Division Two, Goodrich completed a perfect season with a 55-44 victory over Tecumseh.
GLHL
The Calumet Wolverines closed their regular season with a 5-3 loss to the Eagle River Falcons Saturday. Cliff Jurmu, Sherman Mowery and Matt Yeo scored, Logan Rastello had three assists, and Tyler Hubbard made 40 saves.
Seedings are set for the Great Lakes Hockey League tournament this coming weekend. The Portage Lake Pioneers are hosting, and are the top seed. They’ll play pool games against the Sun Prairie Killer Bees Friday at 5:30 and the De Pere Deacons Saturday at 2:00. Both games will be staged at Dee Stadium. The Wolverines are seeded eighth, and will face the Fox Cities Ice Dogs Friday at 11:30, and the Fond du lac Bears Friday at 6:00 in pool play. Both games will be played at the Hoco. Semifinals will be played Saturday evening, and the championship match will face off at the Dee Sunday at 1:00. We’ll broadcast the Wolverines and Pioneers games on KBear 102.3 and 97.7 The Wolf.
NHL
The Red Wings couldn’t hold a late lead, and fell to the Bruins 4-2 Saturday night. Goals by Lucas Raymond and Alex DeBrincat had Detroit up by one early in the third period, but Boston responded with three straight tallies to take the game. John Gibson made 23 saves.
The Wings host the Senators Tuesday evening. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Pistons host the Lakers Monday. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Bucks held off the Suns 108-105 Saturday night. Ryan Rollins scored 26.
Milwaukee will visit the Clippers tomorrow night.
MLB
The Tigers wrapped up their Grapefruit League campaign with a 3-1 victory over the Yankees Saturday. Framber Valdez pitched into the seventh, and gave up a run on seven hits.
The Tigers visit the Rockies for a pair of exhibition games tomorrow and Tuesday, before opening the regular season Thursday at San Diego.
Gleyber Torres was scratched from Saturday’s line-up because of lower back tightness. He’s considered day-to-day.
The Brewers bounced the Padres 6-1 Saturday. Robert Gasser tossed six shutout innings. William Contreras, Jackson Chourio and Jake Bauers homered.
The Brewers will conclude their Cactus League schedule against the Cubs today. Chad Patrick will start, but there will be only minor-leaguers behind him.
Milwaukee prospects will take on the Athletics prospects in a Spring Breakout series contest today.
