A Houghton County man was sentenced Wednesday in 12th Circuit Court for possession of child sexual abuse material.
Raymond Reed-Vandam pleaded guilty in late 2025 to a single count of possession of child sexual abuse material. Houghton County Judge Brittaney Bulleit honored Reed-Vandam’s November plea agreement.
He was sentenced to five years of probation with a nine-month suspended jail term and has registered with the state of Michigan as a sex offender.
Judge Bulleit warned Reed-Vandam that he would not get another chance.
“But you do have to continue that counseling, because that is the only way to properly address the reasons you are here today,” Bulleit said. “It sounds like that is something you are doing, but it has to continue — not just because it is an order from the court, but because your family is supportive of you right now.
“And you received the plea agreement you did because of the position you are in. I can’t guarantee you, but I can well guess that if you were to be back here in this situation again, then your family would not be supportive of you any longer. You would not be getting the plea agreement like the one you’ve got here, and we would likely be looking at some kind of prison sentence.”
Reed-Vandam told the court he deeply regrets his actions and plans to continue counseling with Dr. Forester.
Between his arraignment and sentencing, Reed-Vandam was allowed contact with his newborn child. During that period, Child Protective Services visited the home of Raymond and his wife multiple times and advised Mrs. Reed-Vandam of her responsibilities in protecting her child.
The suspended nine-month sentence will be imposed if Reed-Vandam fails to complete the conditions of his five-year probation.
