High School
The high school hockey tournament opens with regional semifinal games tonight at the SDC.
- Second-seed Calumet faces third-seed Jeffers at 5:30, with coverage beginning around 5:10 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3, with a simulcast on Lite 96.3, Houghton’s Breeze.
- Top-seed Houghton takes on fourth-seed Hancock at 7:30, with coverage beginning around 7:10 on the Voice of the Gremlins, 97.7 The Wolf.
In boys high school basketball last evening…
- Houghton opened a 22-4 first-quarter lead over Jeffers, then held on to claim a 63-50 victory. Terry Nolan led the Gremlins with 24 points – 15 in theopening quarter. Alex Hebert added 19, and Mason Mayo had 10. Levi Kinnunen netted 15 for the Jets, and Landon Larson had 14.
- Calumet dropped a 40-39 heartbreaker to Ishpeming. The Hematites made a layup and got the ‘and-1’ free throw to take the lead with seven seconds left. Andrew Junttila and John Golus each scored 11 for the Copper Kings. Kole Bancroft scored 11 for Ishpeming.
- Baraga routed Chassell 66-31. Daniel Connor had 31 points for the Vikings, and Joseph Fish added 12. Brayden Larson led the Panthers with 20.
- L’Anse lost at North Dickinson 84-52. Sam Lee scored 23 for the Purple Hornets, and Quentin Supanich had 10.
- Ontonagon fell to Ironwood 68-54.

Youth Soccer
A meeting tonight will help shape the future of youth soccer in the Keweenaw. Leaders of the Houghton Football Club and the Copper Country Soccer Association have been exploring a potential merger to create a unified youth soccer organization. They’ll present a preliminary plan, hear from guests in Marquette about their successful unification efforts, listen to your comments, and answer your questions. Anyone interested in local youth soccer is encouraged to attend. The session will begin at 6:30 at the A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum. College Hockey
For the third week in a row, Michigan Tech’s Jack Anderson has been named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Defenseman of the Week. Anderson scored three goals and added an assist in the Huskies’ recent series at Lake Superior State.

The Red Wings are off until February 26th because of the Olympic break.
NBA
The Pistons return from the All-Star break tomorrow when they visit the Knicks. Coverage will begin at 7:05 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Bucks resume play Friday at New Orleans.
