CLK Council of Churches and Main Street Calumet team up to bring Feeding America mobile food pantries to the Calumet-Laurium-Keweenaw area.
Next week, on Wednesday, Sacred Heart Church on Rockland Street will host the first of six mobile food pantries supported by Feeding America. Mobile food pantries offer communities that have limited access to larger food distribution networks opportunities to access nutritious food for the kitchen.
Each distribution site will open at noon throughout the year, and participants are encouraged to arrive early. Volunteers on site will load vehicles with groceries and direct traffic through the parking lot to create an efficient system.
Sometimes described as Farmer’s Markets on Wheels, the Feeding America mobile food pantries share a variety of food with participants that include fresh produce, whole grains, proteins, dairy and cheese, as well as other staple food items.
The Feeding America Mobile Food Pantry will be in Calumet on the following Wednesdays:
● February 25
● April 29
● June 24
● August 26
● October 28
● Tuesday, December 29
For more information about the Mobile Food Pantry dates or volunteer opportunities, please contact Jared Howard, president of the CLK Council, at clkcouncil@gmail.com or call Faith Lutheran Church in Calumet at 906-337-2400.
