College Soccer
The NMU men’s soccer team outlasted Purdue Northwest yesterday and moved into the GLIAC tournament semifinals. On a snowy field in Marquette, the Wildcats and Pride played to a 2-2 tie in regulation. After a scoreless overtime, the teams began matching penalty kicks, with Northern finally ending the match with a 6-5 advantage. More than 100 MTU staffers and volunteers spent yesterday morning clearing three inches of snow off the pitch. The Wildcats will face Roosevelt University in a tournament semifinal Friday afternoon at Saginaw Valley State University.
NHL
The Red Wings fell 5-1 to the Blackhawks yesterday, despite outshooting Chicago 46-20. John Gibson took the loss in net. Dylan Larkin scored Detroit’s only goal.
The Wings have lost four of their last five, and host the Ducks on Thursday. Because of NFL football, coverage will begin at 6:45 on KBear 102.3.
NBA
The Pistons pulled out a 111-108 win over the 76ers last night. Cade Cunningham had 26 points and 11 assists. Jalen Duren scored 21 and grabbed 16 rebounds.
The Pistons return home to host the Wizards tonight.
Detroit officials said over the weekend that backup point guard Marcus Sasser will miss at least another month. He’s dealing with a hip injury.
The Bucks lost to the Rockets 122-115 yesterday. Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 37 for Milwaukee.
The Bucks head to Dallas for a game tonight.
NFL
Jared Goff tossed three touchdown passes as the Lions trounced the Commanders 44-22 yesterday. Jahmyr Gibbs ran for 142 yards and two scores.
The Chargers shut down the Steelers 25-10 in last night’s game.
The Packers host the Eagles tonight, with coverage beginning at 7:30 on 99.3 The Lift.
