On the opening night of the high school volleyball tournament…
In Division Four, District 98:
- Baraga swept Chassell 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-14). For Chassell, Dusty Lippold had 7 kills, 4 digs and 1 ace. Sylvia Aho had 14 assists, 4 digs, and 1 ace. Elli Kuntze had 6 kills, 5 blocks, 5 digs and 1 ace. The Vikings will play at Hancock tomorrow at 6:00.
- Dollar Bay-Tamarack City eliminated L’Anse 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-13). Kiera Isaacson had 14 kills and 13 digs for the Blue Bolts. Sophie Berryman had 8 kills and 2 blocks, while Laila Bell had another strong night at the service line with 19 points plus 6 kills. Kiya Kemppainen added 11 digs, and Sylvie Kentala finished the night with 25 assists. The Blue Bolts will play at Lake Linden-Hubbell tomorrow at 6.
In Division Four, District 97, with all games played at Forest Park:
- Ewen-Trout Creek dispatched Bessemer 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-19). The Panthers will face Forest Park tomorrow, with the broadcast on 99.1 WIKB.
- Ontonagon eliminated Watersmeet (25-17, 25-10, 25-11). The Gladiators will take on Wakefield-Marenisco tomorrow.
In Division Three, District 65:
- Ironwood blanked Westwood 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-23). The Red Devils will host Jeffers tomorrow at 6:00. Calumet will entertain West Iron County in tomorrow’s other district semifinal at 6:00, with coverage at 5:40 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3.
In Division Two, District 33:
- Escanaba ousted Gladstone 3-0. The Eskymoes will play at Negaunee tomorrow. Houghton will host Kingsford in tomorrow’s other district semifinal at 6:00, with coverage at 5:40 on the Voice of the Gremlins, 97.7 The Wolf.

College Hockey
Michigan Tech forward Teydon Trembecky has been named the CCHA Rookie of the Week. Trembecky had two goals in Friday’s game at Clarkson, then added the primary assist on Isaac Gordon’s game-winner on Saturday at St. Lawrence.

The Red Wings visit the Golden Knights tonight. Coverage begins at 9:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA
The Pistons downed the Grizzlies 114-106 last night. Cade Cunningham scored 33. Isaiah Stewart added 26 points and snared 14 rebounds.
The Pistons host the Jazz tomorrow, with coverage at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
Giannis Antetokounmpo’s 16-footer in the final second gave the Bucks a 117-115 win over the Pacers last evening. Antetokounmpo finished with 33 points and 13 rebounds.
The Bucks visit the Raptors tonight.
NFL
In last night’s NFL game, the Cardinals dumped the Cowboys 27-17.

MLB
The Brewers have exercised their option in Freddy Peralta’s contract. The team’s ace will make $8 million in the final season of his current contract next summer.
Brandon Woodruff has declined the $20 million mutual option in his contract with the Brewers, and will become a free agent. Woodruff missed all of the 2024 season and half of the 2025 campaign recovering from major shoulder surgery. He came back with a string of impressive starts, but was sidelined in late September with a lat strain, and missed the playoffs.
