In high school volleyball last night…
- Calumet swept Marquette 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-18). Jess Anderson had 16 digs, Millie Loukus had 12 digs and 25 assists, Chloe Coppo had 9 kills and 6 digs, Amiina Tarnowski had 9 kills, and Braylinn Anttila had 6 kills.
- Jeffers claimed a tight 3-1 (25-23, 25-16, 23-25, 25-23) over Dollar Bay-Tamarack City. Mia Norstrom led the Jets with 13 kills and Kylee Andrews had 8 kills. Mindy Hillstrom had 14 assists. For the Blue Bolts, Kiera Isaacson had 11 kills and 24 digs. Sophie Berryman added 5 kills with Sylvie Kentala finishing with 18 assists. Libero Kallie Heinonen recorded 17 digs.
- Chassell got past L’Anse 3-2 (11-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-17, 15-12). Sylvia Aho had 26 assists and 13 digs for the Panthers, Elli Kuntze had 13 kills, 20 digs and 7 aces, Oriana Olson had 11 kills, 5 blocks, and 15 digs, and Skye Isaacson had 15 digs.
- Baraga v Ironwood Quad – no report.
- Forest Park smothered North Dickinson 3-0 (25-10, 25-18, 25-8).

The Tigers collapsed in the 10th inning, and lost 7-5 to the Guardians last night. Detroit had extended the game when Kerry Carpenter hit a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth to tie the score. Cleveland then torched Will Vest for four runs on five hits in the top of the 10th. Detroit got two back on a Spencer Torkelson home run in the bottom of the inning, but couldn’t close the gap. Gleyber Torres homered earlier in the game.
The Tigers host the Guardians again this evening. Jack Flaherty will start against Gavin Williams. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
Matt Vierling’s injury-plagued season may be over. Vierling’s been out for more than a month with an oblique strain. Problems flared up again recently, and the team has paused his rehab program. Vierling missed extended time over the summer recovering from a strained rotator cuff, and then shoulder inflammation.
The Brewers blasted the Angels 9-2 last evening. Freddy Peralta allowed one run on two hits over six innings, while striking out 10. Christian Yelich homered, doubled, and drove in three runs.
The Brewers entertain the Angels again tonight. Brandon Woodruff will pitch against José Soriano.
