The Tigers outhit the Royals 7-6 last night, but lost the game 3-1. Jack Flaherty had a good outing, pitching into the sixth, and allowing a run on four hits. Gleyber Torres’ RBI single in the top of the third inning gave Detroit a short-lived lead. Maikel Garcia’s solo home run in the bottom of the fourth tied the contest. Bobby Witt, Jr.’s two-run shot off Tyler Holton in the bottom of the eighth was the game-winner.
The Tigers have dropped five of their last six, and play at Kansas City again this afternoon. Tarik Skubal will start against Michael Wacha. Coverage will begin at 1:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Pitcher Sean Gunther won’t be rejoining the Tigers this summer. Team officials confirmed yesterday that his rehab from hip surgery will sideline him for the rest of the season.
The Brewers scored three runs in the top of the ninth, and shut down the Blue Jays 4-1 yesterday. Jackson Chourio homered in his return from the injured list, and Christian Yelich also went deep. Quinn Priester gave up a run on five hits over six innings.
The Brewers visit the Blue Jays again this afternoon. Brandon Woodruff will pitch against Max Scherzer.
Chourio’s return was one of several roster moves the Brewers made yesterday. Milwaukee designated third baseman Oliver Dunn for assignment. They activated pitcher Robert Gasser from the injured list, and assigned him to Nashville. They also optioned outfielder Brandon Lockridge down to the Sounds.

- Peter Karinen from Tucson won the long XC MTB race. Margie Bemis from Indianapolis was the top women’s finisher, and 19th overall
- Tom Miller from Duluth took the medium XC MTB race. Nora Rosemeier from Prior Lake, Minnesota was the fastest woman, in ninth place overall.
- Ian Halbmaier from New Prague, Minesota claimed the short XC MTB race. Corinne Rubin from Houghton won the women’s title, and was sixth overall.

- Bodee McFadden from Duluth won the open downhill, edging out Payton McKeown of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin by less than a tenth of a second. Mara Breeuwer from Duluth won the women’s title. See full results here.
