In close to one week Houghton’s police host a fun run 5 k run-slash-walk. The flame of hope 5k coincides with the return of the special Olympics of Michigan in the western upper peninsula with the region 39 teams.
Special Olympics offers athletics and sports programs to disabled athletes throughout the state. And the organization welcomes support from local communities. After the flame of hope 5 k ends in Houghton, the police department will join other law enforcement partners and take part in the 2025 Torch Run.
The Torch Run marks the start of the special Olympics season. Those interested in registering for the Houghton police department’s fun run can find a registration form online, and contact information for other questions. The fun run, and a thimbleberry jam raffle with the Houghton police will go to support the area 39 teams in 2025.
