College Hockey
The Michigan Tech hockey team will have 18 new players this season. The incoming group includes 10 forwards, seven defensemen, and a goaltender.
Five are transfers. Goalie Owen Bartoszkiewicz and defensemen Jack Anderson, and Joe Prouty played for new Huskies coach Bill Muckalt at Lindenwood University last season. Defenseman Luca Fasciano is coming in from Lakehead University in Toronto, and forward Carson Latimer from the University of British Columbia. Latimer was a fourth-round NHL Draft pick of the Ottawa Senators in 2021.
Several of the freshmen have Michigan connections. Forward Ryan Abraham is from Livonia, and has played four seasons for the OHL Windsor Spitfires. Forward Matthew Van Blaricom is from Saskatchewan, and played for the USHL’s Muskegon Lumberjacks last year. Forward Reid Daavettila is from Howell, and has played the past two seasons in the USHL. Defenseman Braden Pietila played at Hartland High School, and has spent the past two seasons in the NAHL. Huskies Blake, Logan and Chase Pietila are first cousins.
Van Blaricom isn’t the only Canadian in the class. Most have extensive experience in the WHL, including defensemen Reid Andresen and Kalem Parker, and forwards Carson Birnie, Brayden Boehm, Michael Cicek, Rylan Gould and Teydon Trembecky. Forward Noah Reinhart played the past three seasons in the QMJHL.
Defenseman Max Matthews from Arlington, Illinois, rounds out the freshman class. He played the past three seasons in the NAHL.
