Visit Keweenaw Awards representative Greg Markkanen with a lifetime achievement award.
On Monday, Visit Keweenaw announced it was awarding the representative the Visit Keweenaw Tourism Champion, honoring his long-standing commitment to advancing the region’s tourism industry.
A release from the tourism bureau notes Representative Markkanen’s consistent support for the industry, local tourism businesses, and organizations. Markkanen played a significant role in coordinating state funding to reopen ORV Trail #3 in Lake Linden Hubbell, which was impacted by the 2018 flood.
Executive director Brad Barnett says that through the representative’s work with mom-and-pop businesses and recreation volunteer groups, Markkanen has established himself as a champion of the industry in the local area.
