The Brewers were also off yesterday, and host the Nationals this evening. Quinn Priester will start against Mitchell Parker.
Former Tigers pitcher Joe Coleman has died. Coleman was a steady member of the starting rotation from 1971 to 1976. He won 20 games in 1971 and 23 in 1973. He was an All-Star in 1972, and helped Detroit win a division title. Joe Coleman was 78.
College Basketball
The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team has unveiled its 2025-2026 schedule. The Huskies will travel to four tournaments, opening with the prestigious Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic the first weekend in November. They’ll also return to the Justagame Crossover at Wisconsin Dells and the St. Louis County Classic in Duluth, and compete at the Florida Tech Winter Classic in December. Games against Northern Michigan will be played January 8th in Houghton, and February 19th in Marquette.
Running
The annual Run the Keweenaw Trails Fest takes place this weekend, with events in and around Copper Harbor. Events include the 6k Mount Baldy Hillclimb, the Copper Harbor Challenge 10k, the Carl Olson Memorial Adventure Run 25k and the RTK Ultra 50k, along with a non-competitive hike and the 2k Junior Trail Run. Fishing
Tomorrow is the early registration deadline for the upcoming Keweenaw Fish Fest. The tournament will be held July 26th, with launches from either the Big Traverse, Lac La Belle, or Eagle Harbor boat ramps. It features around $10,000 in prizes. High School
The Houghton Hockey team will hold a car wash tomorrow from 10 until 4 at Sayen’s. Money raised will support team travel expenses.
The Calumet High School baseball team’s returnables drive continues. Drop your contributions at the truck in the parking lot at Pat’s Foods in Calumet. Proceeds will help cover the cost of an early-season team trip to play games in Green Bay.
