MLB
Tarik Skubal turned in another dominant performance, as the Tigers blanked the Twins 3-0 last evening. The Tigers’ ace allowed just one hit and struck out 13 over seven innings. His final pitch tripped the radar gun at 100 miles per hour. Kerry Carpenter hit his 16th home run of the season, and blasted an RBI triple. Riley Greene slammed his 19th homer of the summer.
The Tigers take a break today, and open a series at Washington tomorrow night. Jack Flaherty will pitch against Trevor Williams. Coverage will begin at 6:20 on 99.3 The Lift.
Carpenter left the game after legging out that triple with tightness in his right hamstring. He’ll be examined today.
Kyle Farmer’s single off Grant Anderson in the top of the 11th gave the Rockies a 4-3 victory over the Brewers yesterday. Solo homers by Sal Frelick and Christian Yelich in the sixth inning broke a scoreless tie, but Colorado got one back in the eighth, and tied the game when former Brewer Orlando Arcia hit a two-out homer off Trevor Magill in the ninth. Each team scored in the 10th.
The Brewers also have today off, and visit the Mets tomorrow night. Freddy Peralta will start against Clay Holmes.
Milwaukee outfielder Garrett Mitchell is headed to the operating room. A second opinion confirmed the need for another surgery on his left shoulder. He may be able to rejoin the team late in the season.
Brandon Woodruff threw 82 pitches in a rehab start for Nashville yesterday. His fastball topped out at 95 miles per hour. Woodruff hasn’t pitched in the majors for nearly two years, following major shoulder surgery, an ankle injury, and a blow to his elbow from a batted ball. He may be able to rejoin the rotation later this week.
There are reports that Milwaukee is prepared to bring Anthony Siegler up from the Sounds. Siegler plays second base, third base, and catcher. It could mean that catcher William Contreras is heading to the injured list. He’s been plaing with a broken finger all season.
NHL
The Red Wings have brought in a new goaltender. Before Round Two of the NHL Draft on Saturday, they sent Petr Mrazek and a couple of future draft picks to the Ducks in exchange for John Gibson. Mrazek will join former Detroit goalie Ville Husso, who recently signed a two-year contract extension with Anaheim.
