NHL
The Red Wings shuffled the deck before round two of the NHL Draft began yesterday. Detroit acquired veteran goaltender John Gibson from the Ducks, in exchange for goaltender Petr Mrazek, a fourth-round pick in the 2026 draft, and a second-round pick in the 2027 draft. They also traded their second third-round pick in this year’s draft to the Blue Jackets, in exchange for a fourth-round pick this year, and another fourth-rounder next year.
That left Detroit with seven picks over the final six rounds.
- In Round Two, they took 18-year-old Swedish forward Eddie Genborg, who is scheduled to play for Timrå in the Swedish Hockey League next season.
- In Round Three, they added Slovakian goaltender Michal Pradel, who posted a .899 save percentage and a 2.41 goals-against average over 14 games for the USHL’s Tri-City Storm last season.
- In Round Four, Detroit selected Brent Solomon, a winger from Minnesota who is slated to play at the University of Wisconsin next season, and Slovakian Michal Svrcek, who played in the Swedish junior league last season.
- In Round Five, they grabbed defenseman Nikita Tyurin from Moscow, who has been playing in Russia’s junior league.
- In Round Six, Detroit nabbed defenseman Will Murphy, who played for Cape Breton in the QMJHL last season.
- In Round Seven, Detroit took forward Grayden Robertson-Palmer, who played at the Phillips-Andover Academy last season.
No current CCHA players were selected in the draft.
NBA
Kevin Porter has decided to move on from the Bucks. Porter was acquired in a deadline trade this past season that sent MarJon Beauchamp to the Clippers. He had a one-year option for $2.5 million for next season, which he has decided not to exercise. He will become a free agent. Porter has a checkered history of inconsistent play, and missed the 2023-2024 season after an arrest for domestic violence.
The Pistons are adding former Nebraska guard Brice Williams, who was a free agent after not having been drafted. Williams was a Big 10 First Team All-Star last season. They also inked former Minnesota big man Dawson Garcia, who averaged nearly 20 points per game last season for the Golden Gophers, and former Tennessee guard Zakai Zeigler, who will get a look in the NBA Summer League.
