In Copper Country Fast Pitch Softball League play last night…

- Gold Standard shaded Superior Service 6-5. Ashlyn Steves was the winning pitcher, and had two singles and a double. Emily Jokela had two hits for Gold Standard. For Superior Service, Josie Heinonen and Milly Loukus each had a single.
- Northern Wishes defeated the Old Bats of Michigan Made 16-5. Larissa Peterson was the winning pitcher with relief from Janet Mattila.
Mattila, Larissa Peterson and Kim Aho each had three hits for Northern Wishes. Sarah Dowd and Alana Nolan each had two hits for Old Bats.

MLB
The Tigers’ bats went quiet last night, in a 3-0 loss to the Athletics. Detroit collected just four hits. Jack Flaherty struck out seven over six innings, but gave up a three-run homer to Nick Kurtz in the third, and took the loss.
The Tigers host the A’s again this afternoon. Dietrich Enns will be brought up from Toledo to pitch against Jeffrey Springs. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Enns’ start today will mark his first appearance in the majors since 2021, when he was with the Rays. He then spent two seasons in Japan, and pitched in Korea last summer. The Tigers will need to make space on both the 25 and 40-man rosters for him.
Rookie Jacob Misiorowski struck out eight over five scoreless innings, as the Brewers blanked the Pirates 4-0 yesterday. Milwaukee plated all four of their runs off young Pittsburgh ace Paul Skenes in the third inning, powered by a two-run Eric Haase double.
The Brewers have today off, and welcome the Rockies tomorrow.
NBA
The Mavericks made Duke forward Cooper Flagg the first pick in this year’s NBA Draft last night. The Spurs followed by selecting Rutgers point guard Dylan Harper. Neither the Pistons nor the Bucks had a first-round pick this year. In round two tonight, Detroit will have the 37th overall pick, and Milwaukee will have the 47th.
CopperDog
Some big changes are coming to this year’s CopperDog sled dog race.
The three-stage 150 and the two-stage 80 will be merged into one race. The new three-stage CopperDog 120 will cover a course of approximately 120 miles. Organizers anticipate the combined field will enable them to offer more prize money. The race will start in downtown Calumet, but will end at the George Gipp Recreation Area in Laurium. The single-stage CopperDog 30 and CopperDog 15 races will remain basically the same. A four-mile CopperDart race will be added on Sunday, designed for youth and beginners. This year’s CopperPull weight dragging competition will also move to the Gipp Recreation Area, and will be sanctioned by World Wide Weight Pull Organization.
The CopperDog will be staged February 27th, 28th and 29th.
