The Tigers snapped their losing streak with a 9-3 victory over the Rays yesterday. Wenceel Pérez’ two-run homer in the top of the seventh broke a 1-1 tie. Detroit sealed the win with six runs in the top of the ninth, boosted by a three-run Parker Meadows home run. Casey Mize gave up a run on six hits over five innings. He left the game with what appeared to be a leg injury, but team officials said after the game that it was just a cramp.
The Tigers have today off, and begin a home set against the Athletics tomorrow. Tarik Skubal will pitch against Luis Severino. Coverage will begin at 6:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers held off the Twins 9-8 yesterday. Milwaukee built a six-run lead at the end of the fifth inning, then hung on to survive a Minnesota comeback. Rhys Hoskins and Brice Turang homered. In the three-game sweep, the Crew plated 35 runs on 47 hits.
The Brewers host the Pirates tonight. Chad Patrick will start against Braxton Ashcraft.
NBA
The Thunder claimed the NBA championship last night with a 103-91 victory over the Pacers in game seven of the title series. Indiana’s Tyrese Haliburton left the game in the first quarter with an Achilles tendon injury. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was named the series’ Most Valuable Player.
