Helicopter rides. Music and dancing. Games and tournaments. There’s only one weekend that can start summer in the Copper Country. And Bridgefest returns today. Earlier kids and families had some fun on the quincy green in Hancock.
The weekend’s been circled on the calendar all year long. And Bridgfest has finally returned to the Copper Country. Throughout the weekend families and friends will travel between Houghton and Hancock to enjoy the weather, and community and celebrate the connection between the cities.
But the experiments are so cool this year. Everything from building rockets, making LED flowers, making your kite, and flying it right here on Quincy Green in downtown Hancock. I mean, there’s like so many things that are happening here and the kids are having a blast. – Todd Gast DDA Coordinator, City of Hancock
It’s fun to see the competition that happens. A couple of the booths have prizes at their booths as well. And so can you build the strongest bridge? The kids get competitive, and they are stretching their limits a little bit with what they can do with just simple paper or pencils and paper clips. – Alice Roach, President, ASCE Regional Chapter
Around Quincy Green, several local businesses and education programs set up tents and activities. Orbion Space Technology brought with them magnetic sand for kids to play with. While Sew Cranky showed kids how to use a hand-crank sewing machine.
And the City of Hancock is so happy to be able to have a kickoff like this with Kids on the Green. It’s bringing in a lot of families, a lot of kids. What we’re doing is building memories and traditions with Bridge Fest, and that happens with the youth. – Todd Gast DDA Coordinator, City of Hancock
The Bridge Fest Parade starting over here and then heading over to Houghton. We wanted to pull families over here so we’re excited to be sort of the kickoff to the whole weekend event and really that’s what the whole weekend is for. It’s to get your family together, have some fun, enjoy the Keweenaw, and celebrate the bridge that we have and how it connects our communities. – Alice Roach, President, ASCE Regional Chapter
