Scammers target residents and visitors in Michigan.
Michigan State Police report these scams will text individuals claiming to come from the ‘Michigan DMV’. The texts threaten legal action against citizens with a driver’s license suspension for failure to pay and shares an associated link.
The Michigan Secretary of State will NEVER contact people via text or ask individuals to send money or personal information over the phone. Do not click on the associated link attached to the text message.
Officials suggest those to receive a text from the “Michigan DMV” delete the message and report information to state police. The state of Michigan does not have a department of Motor Vehicles.
