In hockey Saturday…
- Jeffers wrapped up its season with a 4-3 overtime loss at Alpena. Benton Rajala, Brit Heinonen and Griffin Heinonen scored for the Jets.

In boys basketball Saturday…
- Jeffers fell to Gwinn 51-25.
At the U.P. Swim Finals Saturday in Marquette, the Houghton boys finished second to Marquette. Individual winners included Beau Haataja in the 100 backstroke and the 200 freestyle, and the boys 400 freestyle relay team. The girls placed third, behind Marquette and Kingsford. See full results here.
College Basketball
Kendall Standfest scored 22 points, as the Michigan Tech women’s basketball team defeated Lake Superior State 75-62 Saturday.
The Tech men’s team claimed sole possession of first place in the GLIAC with an 80-75 victory over the 15th-ranked Lakers. Adam Hobson scored a season-best 24 points, as the Huskies came from 14 points down to claim the win.
The Northern Michigan women’s team grabbed sole possession of second place in the GLIAC by waltzing past Ferris State 75-48 Saturday. Alyssa Hill scored 19.
The NMU men lost 91-84 to the 20th-ranked Bulldogs. Dylan Kuehl netted 31 points.
College Hockey
The MTU hockey team battled to a 4-4 tie at Augustana Saturday night, then earned the bonus CCHA standings point in a shootout. Alex Nordstrom scored twice, and Chase Pietila and Philip Fankl also found the net for the Huskies. Derek Mullahy made 25 saves.
Northern’s hockey team had the weekend off.
College Skiing
Saturday was freestyle day at the CCSA championships at the Tech Trails. Michigan Tech skiers Tryg Solberg and Colin Freed placed first and second in the men’s senior 20k, with Adrik Kraftson from NMU fourth. Northern’s Victoria Dybwad won the women’s senior 20k, with Bridget Burns, Greta Hansen and Alice McNight of the Huskies finishing third, fourth and fifth. Gideon Talbot of the Copper Country Ski Tigers took third place in the boys U14 3k. See Saturday’s full results here.

Great Lakes Hockey League
The Portage Lake Pioneers rode a strong third period to an 8-5 win over the Eagle River Falcons Saturday.
The Calumet Wolverines clobbered the Sun Prairie Killer Bees 11-4.

The Red Wings are off until February 22nd, as the NHL continues its pause to allow players to compete in the 4 Nations Face-Off.
NBA
The Pistons are off until Friday, when they visit the Spurs. Coverage will begin at 8:05 on 99.3 The Lift.
